Today's conversation touches on some topics that are extremely close to my heart. I have the pleasure of discussing these issues with Cody Royle, who is achieving some significant recognition for his outside the box style approach to leadership, culture, well-being and performance.
Some of the topics we discuss include
- There's no such thing as one culture. Micro cultures exist & matter.
- Self Leadership and well-being is vital to your own success and culture
- Self talk & behaviours are important communication tools that need attention
- Getting through writer's block and how the flow cycle helps with this.
- Normalising struggle as part of the human journey
- Disrupting the norm in podcasting
Cody Royle is an author, podcast host, and football coach. Currently, he serves as the head coach of AFL Team Canada, the men's national program for Australian Rules football.
Cody is a standout voice in the crossover of leadership principles between sports and business. His first book, Where Others Won't, proposed that businesses should look at how pro sports teams focus on team dynamics and talent optimization in order to innovate.
The book includes in-depth interviews with the likes of Buffalo Sabres head coach Ralph Krueger and draws on many amazing lessons from some of the greatest leaders in sports from around the globe.
The success of Where Others Won't spawned a one-of-a-kind podcast series of the same name and reached the Apple top 100 within a week of launch.
Cody has attracted an epic line up including former Colorado Avalanche head coach Tony Granato, Detroit Pistons legend Joe Dumars, New England Patriots executive Michael Lombardi, AFL legend Paul Roos & author of Legacy James Kerr, former Netflix CHRO Patty McCord, bestselling authors Adam Grant, and Daniel Pink. And I can’t recommend highly enough my 2 favourite episodes with Whoop creator Will Ahmed and the legendary Michael Gervais, High performance Psychologist.
Currently Cody is working on his 2nd book due for release in January 2021 titled "The Tough Stuff"
